The moon changes very little over time. It is almost the same today as it has been for billions of years. It is unchanged for a couple of reasons.

One reason is that nothing grows on the moon. The moon does not have plant and animal life on its surface like the Earth.

A second reason the moon is unchanged is that there is no water to wear down the soil on it.

A third reason the moon is unchanged is that there is no wind to move dust around on it. Water and wind help to make changes on the Earth. However, these are not present on the moon.

After the Earth and moon were formed a lot of volcanoes spouted dust and ash onto their surfaces. These volcanoes also spread liquid rock over parts of the Earth and the Moon. Much of the liquid rock has been worn away on Earth because of plants, animals, water, and wind. On the moon, the rock, dust, and ash are still unchanged because there are no plants, animals, water, or wind to change them.
